Isao Uchida Presidente de NASDA

Over the last 50 years, achievements in space technology have turned dreams of exploring the cosmos into a reality. Today, communications, broadcasting, and meteorological satellites are ubiquitous; space technology is breaking new ground. Earth observation satellites allow us to grapple with global environmental problems, and the space station project will be a stepping stone to the expansion of human activity into outer space, to the moon and the other planets.

Technology has indeed played an important role in raising the quality of our life. However, in recent years subtle changes in our environment due to global atmospheric pollution have provided warnings from nature that the human race can no longer afford to ignore. Finding solutions to global environmental problems and restoring harmony in the relationship between the human race and our planet are vital. Space development is the most efficacious route to finding solutions to these problems.

If we can expand bourders around the human race into outer space, there will be an abundance of opportunities; space science will make great strides through elucidating the origin of life and the birth of the cosmos; from a practical point of view, we can create new materials and medical supplies in space environments such as microgravity. It is no longer just a dream, to build a base on the Moon or on Mars, to found a new world in space, the second Earth. Long term research has shown that it will be possible utilizing new materials developed in microgravity and the plentiful supply of solar energy available in space. Also, the idea of a space factory with accomodation enabling Humans to make prolonged stays in space will soon be turned into reality.

Toward the realization of this dream, NASDA has developed, on its own, the highly praised H-II rocket and contributed tremendously to the development of high-performance satellites.

NASDA wishes to strengthen international cooperative efforts in working toward a better life for all and meeting the challenges of this vast frontier.
